Handmade motion instruments from the Desire3D workshop

Objects made for balance, precision, and beautiful motion.

Desire3D creates small-batch precision spinning tops, Aevum cradle sets, concave glass arenas, cast bronze pieces, and practical testing tools. Each piece grows from workshop experiments in CNC machining, casting, measurement, and the quiet joy of watching something spin properly.

The shop is open

Small-batch pieces, finally available.

The first Desire3D shop pieces are now listed: complete Aevum spinning top sets, individual cradles, concave glass spinning arenas, cast rings, and precision tops. New cast bronze sculptures, glass bases, and custom word/design options will be added as they are finished.

Aevum

Collector cradle sets

Hand-cast and polished cradle systems designed to turn a compatible spinning top into a small kinetic display piece.

Tops

Precision spinning tops

Numbered, tested, and hand-finished tops made for collectors who care about feel, finish, stability, and spin behaviour.

Glass arenas and cast rings

Concave glass surfaces and cast metal rings for clean tabletop spinning, display, and future custom word/design options.

What Desire3D is about

Finished objects matter, but so does the process behind them. The site brings together the shop, the testing tools, the technical notes, and the older projects that helped build the current workshop.

Spinning tops

Small precision objects made for long, stable, beautiful motion. Design is guided by balance, geometry, material, surface finish, and testing.

Aevum cradles

Hand-finished cradle systems that combine cast metal, glass, and fine adjustment into a collector-style spinning display.

TopSpin app

An Android testing tool that uses phone sensors to study RPM, vibration, spin decay, and stability in real spinning top tests.

Designed, made, tested, refined

The work is practical and physical: make the part, test what it really does, then improve the next version. A beautiful object should still earn its place on the bench.

  1. Design the idea Start with a shape, mechanism, fixture, toolpath, or test method that solves a real workshop problem.
  2. Make the object Use CNC machining, casting, hand finishing, printed parts, electronics, and patient adjustment to bring it into physical form.
  3. Watch what happens Use TopSpin data, spin tests, visual checks, and honest observation to make the next version cleaner, stronger, and more elegant.

Why motion?

Spinning tops are simple at first glance, but they reveal everything: balance, mass, surface finish, tip geometry, vibration, friction, and time. A good spin is a small proof that the design, material, and finishing all worked together.

Made slowly

Pieces are made in small batches, often by casting, machining, sanding, polishing, testing, and adjusting by hand. Small variations are part of the object, not a flaw.

Quick questions

Short answers for visitors finding Desire3D through spinning tops, Aevum cradles, glass arenas, or the TopSpin app.

What is an Aevum cradle?

It is a hand-finished display system for compatible spinning tops, using cast metal, concave glass, and fine magnetic adjustment to create a controlled spinning arena.

What is TopSpin?

TopSpin is the Desire3D Android app for timing spinning tops and measuring RPM, vibration, spin decay, and stability using phone sensor data.

For people who notice the details.

Desire3D is for collectors, makers, machinists, experimenters, and anyone who still enjoys the quiet satisfaction of a well-made object doing exactly what it was designed to do.
